About The Event

Get ready for high-flying thrills and lakefront excitement at the Chicago Air & Water Show, returning August 16–17, with a full rehearsal on August 15. This free summer tradition, first launched in 1959, draws millions to the Lake Michigan shoreline for jaw-dropping aerial and aquatic performances.

From 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, the skies come alive with daring stunts by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Army Golden Knights parachute team, and flyovers from military aircraft like the C-17, KC-135, and Osprey. Civilian pilots add even more action with vintage warbirds, biplanes, and jet-powered maneuvers.

The heart of the show is centered at North Avenue Beach, but incredible views stretch from Oak Street to Fullerton. Against Chicago’s iconic skyline, the combination of roaring engines, parachute drops, and precision flyovers is nothing short of spectacular.

For the best experience, arrive early, bring sunscreen and snacks, and look for the city’s green-and-white pole markers to navigate or meet up with friends.

Whether you're a seasoned spectator or first-timer, the Chicago Air & Water Show is a one-of-a-kind summer spectacle—fun, free, and unforgettable. Don’t miss your chance to look up and feel the rush!
